Miss Lauren
Director and Owner
Welcome to the S.T.E.A.M. Engine Academy website. I created this online school, days after our world was declared in a state of emergency. My goal is to make education affordable and accessible to as many children as possible. So much has been placed on their shoulders. However we owe it to them to make our best efforts to provide them with consistency and social connections. We serve all ages 3yrs to 12th grade high school, but I have taught preschool for 13 yrs, and taught along side teachers in middle school and high school as an Autism Specialist. Here I've hired, fully credentialed and degreed school age teachers who currently work in our local school districts (San Ramon Valley Unified School District). We are constantly evolving to the needs of our students and welcome any opportunity to support now, and long after this pandemic ends. For those of you in my area, I am working on opening a physical location as well!
I hope you enjoy looking through the site, and I hope to be able to offer my support to your families!
Miss Alyssa: Teacher
" Hello! My name is Alyssa Cabrera. I am a SJSU graduate with a degree in Child Development. I’ve had over 10 years of experience working with children and I absolutely love it! My goal as an educator is to have engaging learning experiences, promote positivity, and most of all, a safe space! To have the ability to make an impact in a child’s life is one thing, but it is another to make an impact on their future.
When I am not spending time with family or my two dogs, my passions are cooking, music, and art. I’ve been cooking with my mom ever since I was three years old, loved music ever since I was a baby, and on my spare time, I like to paint, crochet, and draw!
As a teacher, I love to implement music within education and other subjects, because not only would they benefit development with fine and large motor skills and build connections within regions of their brains, it is also a great structural model for social interactions and emotional exploration! With art, there are so many ways to be creative that it becomes the easiest way for a child to display their personalities and who they are.
The best thing about art is when I find out children’s personalities because it then gives me a better understanding of how to teach effectively and how they will learn!
I am looking forward to working with your children here at S.E.A! "

Art is my passion; I'm a painter through and through. I love working on mandalas, with clay and anything abstract! Art is an amazing way of channeling creativity. There's no wrong way to do art! Do what you
feel is right. in your heart.

Mr. James: Teacher
Hello! My name is James Gauvreau (Guv-Row, but I've heard it pronounced more ways than you can imagine!), and I'm delighted to have the opportunity to help kids learn during this difficult time. Teaching has been some of the most meaningful and directly constructive work I've ever had the privilege of performing.
I've been tutoring or teaching in some capacity for half my life. When I was younger, I helped to homeschool my four (much smaller) siblings, and over the years I found myself tutoring in a more formal capacity at a variety of locations. Just last year, I completed a graduate degree in Philosophy, and I'm taking a couple of years to round out my professional experience before I head back into the academic trenches for a PhD.
I was born in Missouri, but spent much of my childhood bouncing between St. Louis and Detroit, and most recently lived in California for three years before moving to Vermont, so I've been north, south, east, and west across the United States.
